Description

Flat, round and shallow, this is the LED lamp for fittings with no room for a conventional bulb. The body is white with a frosted white face, and light leaves it across a wide spread rather than a narrow cone, so one lamp fills a small recess evenly. It draws 9W and gives a warm white 3000K light, the softer tone most people want in a living room or a hallway. It is not dimmable, so pair it with a plain switch.

At 75mm across it drops into the shallow GX53 downlights and cabinet fittings found in kitchen plinths, glass display units and wardrobes, and it is equally at home in a low profile flush fitting on a landing ceiling. We reach for it where a ceiling void is too tight to take anything deeper, and where a spotlight would look fussy. It belongs in dry rooms, over shelving and inside cupboards, rather than anywhere it will meet steam or splashing. For a run of matching cabinet lights, keeping one type of lamp across the lot holds the light consistent from door to door.

Construction is simple: a moulded white housing with a diffusing frosted face and pins that twist into a GX53 holder. Because the face is flat it gathers dust more readily than a round bulb, so give it a wipe with a dry cloth, switched off and cool, whenever you clean the fitting itself. It carries a two year warranty. We keep it on the shelf as a straight replacement for the lamps supplied with shallow cabinet and ceiling fittings. The same flat shape runs through our GX53 range in a cooler white at this output and in brighter versions, dimmable ones among them, so a fitting can be re-tuned without changing anything else.
