Description

This is a small round plate of aluminium, finished in black, measuring 50mm across and sitting barely above the surface it rests on. The disc is circular and even all the way round. It is plain: no pattern, no trim, just a flat black form that reads as shadow rather than as a part. It weighs next to nothing in the hand. Black is what we would choose for anything meant to be looked past in a garden, and this is very much a look-past piece.

Its place is outdoor, ground-level lighting work, where a small black plate is wanted at the foot of a garden fitting. It is non-electrical and takes no lamp of its own; the lamp and the light belong to the fitting it serves.
