Description

This cream mug for Grandad carries a sweet line drawing of a little house, with a leafy sprig rising from its chimney and two slender stems curving up either side. The word GRANDAD arches above it and "another word for BEST FRIEND" is written beneath. The real surprise is inside: a heartfelt message runs around the inner wall just below the rim, beginning "You are so special to me. You have taught me to be humble and kind. You are full of random knowledge that I never thought I would need." The mug is a simple straight-sided shape on a neat stepped foot, with a curled scroll handle, and it stands 9.8cm tall, 13cm wide and 8.7cm deep.

It holds 400ml, which leaves room for a generous brew of tea or coffee. That makes it right for a slow breakfast, a mid-morning break or a quiet cup in his favourite chair. We think it makes a thoughtful gift for Grandad from a grandchild, the kind of present that says what a card often cannot. As he drinks, the message inside comes into view line by line, while the little house on the front keeps the look gentle and homely. The back is left plain cream, so the design has the front to itself.

The soft cream colour and fine grey print sit happily on a kitchen shelf, a breakfast tray or a desk at home, and the printed words run on both the outside and the inside of the mug. For everyday care we would wash it by hand in warm soapy water and dry it with a soft cloth to keep the print looking its best. To make the gift feel extra special, wrap it with his favourite tea or biscuits, or tuck a handwritten note inside so he finds your words before the printed ones.
