Description

The Gosmelle is a round recessed LED downlight with a black steel body and a white plastic diffuser at its centre. It is 8.6cm across and sits 2.6cm deep, so it needs only a shallow void above the ceiling, and it fits a cut-out 7.5cm wide. The light source is an integrated LED, built into the fitting, drawing 2.7W and giving 330lm at 4000K, a cool light that keeps colours crisp and clear. Its IP44 rating means it is protected from splashing water, which settles where it can go: a bathroom, a kitchen or a porch ceiling outdoors.

We would set a row of these along a hallway ceiling or over a picture wall, where the cool white light shows artwork and paint colours clearly. In a kitchen it gives crisp light for preparing food, and in a bathroom it suits the ceiling, where a qualified electrician will confirm the right zone. Outside, it can light a porch or canopy ceiling by the front door. The black trim suits darker, industrial or monochrome schemes, and against a pale ceiling it reads as a neat, deliberate ring rather than a plain white disc. Its shallow 2.6cm depth also makes it a good choice where the space above the ceiling is tight.

The body is steel with a textured black finish, and the white plastic diffuser spreads the LED into a soft, glowing disc rather than a bright point. It is not dimmable and has no switch of its own, so it is controlled from the wall switch and runs from mains at 220-240V, 50/60Hz. As a wired mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. Each one weighs 0.162KG packed. Because it is not dimmable, pair it with a standard wall switch rather than a dimmer.
