Description

The Gosmelle is a square LED downlight that sits flat against the ceiling, with a slim black steel frame around a white plastic diffuser. It measures 28.5cm long and 28.5cm wide, and stands just 2.8cm high, so it reads as a neat panel of light rather than a bulky fitting. The LED is integrated, drawing 20.5W and giving out 2,500lm of cool white light at 4000K. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in rooms that stay dry.

We would put it in a home office, a study, a hallway or a landing, anywhere a clear, even light helps you read, work or find your way. Cool white at 4000K is crisp and bright, the kind of light that keeps desk work and bookshelves easy to see. The black frame draws a clean outline against a pale ceiling, which suits a modern or monochrome scheme, and because the panel sits so close to the ceiling it works well where headroom is limited. It is not dimmable, so it gives one steady level of light, switched at the wall like any standard ceiling light.

The body is steel with a black finish, and the white plastic diffuser spreads the light from the integrated LED across the whole face of the panel. There is no pull cord or switch on the light itself: it runs from mains power at 220 to 240V, 50/60Hz, and is controlled from the wall switch. It carries an Energy Class E rating and weighs 1.123KG packed. As a wired-in mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. Once it is fitted, there is no separate bulb to buy, just a slim square of light at the flick of a switch.
