The Gosmelle is a round, slim LED downlight in white, with a white plastic body, a white plastic diffuser and a narrow trim ring that sits close to the ceiling. It measures 21.6cm across, and its integrated LED draws 18.5W to give 2,100 lumens, a generous output for a single ceiling light. With an IP20 rating it is for dry indoor rooms only, so it belongs in the main living spaces rather than a bathroom or anywhere damp.

It needs only 4cm of depth above the ceiling, so it suits shallow ceiling voids where a deeper downlight would not fit. It sits neatly in a living room, hallway, landing, bedroom or home office, spreading even, diffused light from the flat panel. The choice of colour temperature is the real gain: 2700K gives a warm white for evenings and bedrooms, 4000K a crisp neutral white for a study or hallway, and 6500K a cool daylight white for reading and close work, so one fitting can suit whichever room it ends up lighting.

It is not dimmable, so it runs from an ordinary wall switch rather than a dimmer. It needs a ceiling hole 20.5cm across, and the 21.6cm trim covers the edge of that hole for a tidy line against the ceiling. At 0.46KG packed it is light to handle, and the installation instructions are available as a download. As a mains light wired into the ceiling, it is best installed by a qualified electrician. Because the colour is set at the light rather than at the switch, it is worth deciding on the shade of white when the downlight is fitted.

We would keep it out of bathrooms. It is rated IP20, which means it is for dry indoor rooms only, such as living rooms, hallways and bedrooms.
