Description

The Gosmelle is a slim, round LED downlight that sits flush in the ceiling, with a white steel body and a white plastic diffuser across its face. It measures 16.6cm across and needs a recess just 2.6cm deep, so it suits ceilings with very little space behind them. The LED is integrated, drawing 11W and giving 1,350 lumens of warm white light at 3000K, so there is no separate bulb to fit. It is rated IP20, which settles where it goes: indoors, in dry rooms, and never in a bathroom or outdoors.

Warm white at 3000K gives a soft, homely tone, so we would put it in a living room, a bedroom, a hallway or a landing, anywhere you want general light from overhead without a hanging shade. A few set in a row along a reading nook or a window seat give a run of light along the space, and because it is dimmable you can lower it for a quiet evening. The flat white trim sits close to a white ceiling and reads as part of it, so the room keeps a clean, uncluttered look.

The body is steel and the diffuser is plastic, both in white, and there is no switch on the light itself, so it works from the wall switch in the room. As a wired-in mains light running at 220 to 240V, 50/60Hz, it should be installed by a qualified electrician. The installation instructions come as a download, and the packed weight is just 0.347KG. Before you order, check your ceiling: it needs a 15.5cm cut-out, and the 16.6cm trim covers the edge of the hole, so a clean, round opening of that size is all it needs.
