Description

The Gosmelle is a square LED downlight, with a satin nickel trim framing a round white diffuser that sits close to the ceiling once fitted. The light is 16.6cm long and 16.6cm wide, made from plastic in a satin nickel colour, with a white plastic shade to soften the light. The LED is integrated, drawing 10.5W and giving 1,200lm, so there is never a bulb to buy or change. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms, well away from water.

We would choose it for hallways, landings, living rooms, bedrooms and studies, anywhere a neat, low-profile ceiling light suits better than a pendant. The real advantage is the choice of three colour temperatures: 2700K for a warm glow in a lounge or bedroom, 4000K for a crisper cool light in a study or home office, and 6500K for bright daylight where you want to see fine detail. Because the setting is chosen at the light itself, you can fit the same downlight throughout a home and still give each room the mood it needs.

The trim has a brushed satin nickel look with softly rounded corners, and the circular opening shows off the white diffuser cleanly. It is not dimmable and has no switch of its own, so it is controlled from an ordinary wall switch. It runs at 220-240V, 50/60Hz, and carries an energy class of E. Fitting needs a cut-out of 15.5cm and a recess depth of 4cm above the ceiling, so it is worth measuring the space before work begins. As a mains light that is wired in, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download.
