The Glowlight is a 40mm diameter LED recessed downlight from Ideal Lux with a black metal trim ring and an integrated 3000K warm white LED. The compact aperture and recessed installation make it a discreet fixed spotlight for plasterboard and panel ceilings, casting a focused beam downwards without the fitting projecting into the room.

Designed for low-profile ceiling integration in kitchens, hallways, bathrooms (dry zones only — IP20 rated), and living spaces, the Glowlight suits modern and industrial interiors where visible fittings need to be minimal. The 40mm diameter is smaller than standard 50-100mm downlights, allowing tighter spacing for layered lighting schemes or fitting into narrow ceiling voids where larger downlights cannot go. The black finish recedes visually against dark ceilings and provides contrast on white ceilings where the trim becomes a graphic element.

The metal construction and round ring design are engineered for tool-free installation into plasterboard or suspended panel ceilings with spring-loaded retention clips. The non-dimmable LED operates on mains voltage without a separate driver box in most installations, simplifying the ceiling void requirement. The 3000K colour temperature produces warm white light comparable to halogen, avoiding the cooler blue cast of older LED downlights.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating means it is suitable for dry bathroom zones only (Zone 3 or outside zones). It cannot be installed directly above a bath, shower, or basin where water spray is possible. For wet zones, choose an IP65-rated downlight instead.

Is it dimmable?

No. The integrated LED is non-dimmable and operates at fixed output on a standard 230V mains circuit. Installing it on a dimmer circuit may cause flickering or damage to the driver.

What cut-out size is needed in the ceiling?

The 40mm diameter refers to the visible aperture. The actual cut-out diameter will be slightly larger to accommodate the trim ring and retention clips — typically around 45-50mm. Check the installation guide for the exact cut-out specification before drilling.

How is it retained in the ceiling?

The Glowlight uses spring-loaded retention clips that compress when pushed into the ceiling void and expand behind the plasterboard to hold the fitting in place. No screws or additional fixings are needed once the hole is cut.
