Description

Our Gilmarne floor lamp is a slim black steel stand with a long stem that leans gently up from a round base and bends at the top into a short arm. From the tip of that arm a black holder hangs straight down to carry a single bare bulb with no shade, so the bulb you choose becomes the centrepiece. It stands 170cm tall, measures 43cm in length and 6cm in width, and rests on a base 30cm across. The holder takes an E27 bulb of up to 40W, and the bulb is not included. Rated IP20, it belongs indoors in dry rooms, away from bathrooms and the garden.

The arm reaches out from the top of the stem, so the bulb hangs high and a little way clear of the frame. That suits the end of a sofa, the side of an armchair or a quiet corner of a living room or bedroom. With a decorative filament bulb the lamp turns into a piece of display lighting in its own right, while a plainer bulb gives an easy, everyday glow for an evening with a book. The narrow profile and compact base take up little floor space, so it slips in beside furniture where a wider lamp would crowd the room.

The whole frame is steel in a black finish, from the base up to the holder, and steel is a strong, rigid metal. A foot switch lets you turn the lamp on or off with a tap of your foot, which is handy once it is tucked beside a chair. It runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains. Packed, it weighs 7.492KG, and the installation instructions are available as a download.
