Description

The Gentry is a 290mm semi-flush ceiling light built around a cylindrical clear glass enclosure held between polished nickel top and bottom bands, with three E14 candle bulbs visible inside the glass. The 244mm drop from ceiling to bottom finial gives the fitting enough presence to act as a focal point without requiring the ceiling height needed for a full pendant.

Designed for hallways, entrance areas, kitchens and bedrooms with ceiling heights between 2.3m and 2.6m, the Gentry provides ambient light through the clear curved glass while the polished nickel frame reflects light back up onto the ceiling. The semi-flush fitting sits tight to the ceiling, making it suitable for rooms where a full pendant would hang too low or feel overbearing. The three candle bulbs inside the glass cage provide 360-degree light distribution, reducing shadows in narrow hallways or small square entrance areas.

The clear curved glass panels are held in place by vertical polished nickel struts that divide the cylinder into three sections, with the nickel bands top and bottom providing structural rigidity and concealing the wiring entry point and bulb holders. The polished nickel finish is highly reflective, creating bright highlights under daylight and amplifying the bulb light when the fitting is switched on. The fitting accepts standard E14 candle bulbs up to 40W each, giving flexibility to choose filament candles for a warm vintage look or LED candles for energy efficiency. White candle sleeves conceal the bulb holders behind the nickel struts.

What bulbs does the Gentry take?

The fitting takes three E14 (small Edison screw) candle bulbs, each rated up to 40W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for a traditional look with lower running costs.

What ceiling height does it suit?

The 244mm drop works best in rooms with ceiling heights between 2.3m and 2.6m. In lower ceilings the fitting still provides clearance but the visual balance tips towards flush rather than semi-flush. In higher ceilings above 2.8m a full pendant with adjustable drop would typically give better proportions.

Is the glass clear or frosted?

The glass is clear curved panels, so the candle bulbs and white candle sleeves are fully visible when the fitting is switched on. If you prefer not to see the bulbs, choose filament-style LED candles where the visible element adds to the design rather than detracting from it.

How is the polished nickel maintained?

Polished nickel is highly reflective and shows fingerprints and dust easily. Wipe gently with a dry microfibre cloth to maintain the shine. For more stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth with distilled water is acceptable, but avoid household metal polishes or chemical sprays which can damage the plated finish.
