Description

The Gedrez is a set of five round LED downlights that sit recessed in the ceiling, each with a satin nickel finish on a plastic body and a transparent plastic lens. Every light is 9cm across, fits a 6.8cm cut-out and needs only 2.5cm of depth behind the ceiling, which suits ceilings with little room behind the plasterboard. The LEDs are integrated, so there are no bulbs to buy or change, and each light draws 4.9W while giving 520lm. The IP20 rating settles where they belong: indoors, in dry rooms, away from steam and splashing water.

Each light tilts within its bezel, so you can aim the beam where you want it: washing a wall, picking out a picture or lighting a worktop. A run of them along a hallway, kitchen or living room gives clean, even light with nothing to break the line of the ceiling. Each one also offers three colour temperatures: a warm 2700K for living rooms and bedrooms, a neutral 4000K for kitchens and studies, and a crisp 6500K for utility rooms or anywhere you want bright, daylight-like white. Being able to choose means one set can suit whichever room you pick, so you need not settle on a white before buying.

We like the satin nickel for its soft metallic sheen, which sits quietly against a white or pale ceiling, while the transparent lens lets the light through clearly. These downlights are not dimmable and have no switch of their own, so they are switched at the wall; pair them with an ordinary switch rather than a dimmer. They run from 220-240V mains as a wired fitting, so a qualified electrician should install them, and the installation instructions come as a download. Before ordering, check the ceiling: each light needs a 6.8cm hole and 2.5cm of depth behind the plasterboard.

Frequently Asked

Can these downlights go in a bathroom?

No. They are rated IP20, which means indoors and in dry rooms only, so we suggest living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and studies rather than a bathroom or anywhere near water.

What size hole does each downlight need?

Each downlight fits a 6.8cm cut-out, is 9cm across and needs just 2.5cm of depth behind the ceiling, so it suits ceilings with little room to spare.

Which colour temperatures can I choose?

Each light offers 2700K for a warm white, 4000K for a neutral white and 6500K for a cool, daylight-like white.

Are the downlights dimmable?

No, they are not dimmable and have no switch of their own, so they work from an ordinary wall switch rather than a dimmer.

Does the set need bulbs?

No bulbs are needed because the LEDs are integrated; each light draws 4.9W and gives 520lm of light.

Can the lights be angled?

Yes, each light tilts within its satin nickel bezel, so you can aim the beam at a wall, a picture or a worktop.
