Description

The Gedrez is a set of ten round recessed LED downlights in black, each 9cm in diameter, with a black plastic body and a clear plastic shade over the LEDs. The light source is integrated LED, so there is no separate bulb to buy or fit. Each downlight draws 4.9W and gives 520lm, and each offers three colour temperatures: 2700K, 4000K and 6500K. They are rated IP20, which settles where they belong: indoors and dry, such as living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and studies, never bathrooms or anywhere outdoors.

Ten matching lights in one box let you plan a whole room at once, set in a line or a grid so the ceiling looks even and uncluttered. The black trim stands out against a white ceiling and sits comfortably with darker paintwork and modern schemes. We think the colour temperature choice is the real gain: 2700K gives a warm light for a sitting room or bedroom, 4000K a cooler neutral light for a kitchen or hallway, and 6500K a crisp daylight for a home office or workspace. Set close to a wall, a row of them throws soft pools of light down it that pick out pictures and shelves.

Each downlight needs a 6.8cm hole in the ceiling and only 2.5cm of depth behind it, which makes the set a good choice where the space behind the ceiling is shallow. Blue spring clips on either side grip the ceiling. The lights run on mains power at 220-240V, 50/60Hz, and they are not dimmable, so they work from an ordinary wall switch rather than a dimmer, with no switch on the light itself. Because the set is wired into the mains, it should be installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. The packed set weighs 0.869KG. We suggest checking for 2.5cm of clear space at every spot where you plan a light.
