Description

A small recessed spotlight whose head retracts into the housing and swivels within it, so the beam can be pointed where it is wanted and sits neatly back when aimed straight down. The LED is integrated and the driver is supplied with it. The light is warm white at 3000K, drawn from 7W, and the 610 lumens arrive as a focused beam rather than a broad wash. There is no dimming, so a plain switch suits it best.

We use these where a fixed downlight would light the wrong thing. Angled along a run of worktop, they put light on the chopping board instead of the floor; turned towards a wall, they graze plaster, stone or a framed print. A row down a hallway can be tipped to follow the line of the wall, and over a headboard a pair can be swung apart for reading. The warm tone suits living rooms and bedrooms far better than a cooler white would.

The housing and visible trim are finished in black, which reads quietly against a dark ceiling and picks itself out deliberately against a pale one. Wiring is protected by double insulation, and the fitting belongs in dry rooms indoors; a shower area or a covered porch calls for something better sealed. To keep it looking right, switch the circuit off, let the head cool, then wipe the trim with a dry cloth and keep solvents away from the black. It carries a three year warranty. We also stock the same spotlight with a matt white body and black head, in both warmer and cooler colour temperatures, and in a brighter version with a larger cut-out where one point has more work to do.
