A G4 capsule is a small thing with a good deal asked of it. This one draws 5W and returns about 500 lumens at 4000K, a cool white that reads crisp and keeps pale surfaces looking clean rather than creamy. The clear body leaves the light source on show, which suits the tight little fittings G4 pins were made for. It runs on low voltage rather than straight off the mains, and it is not dimmable, so it wants a plain on-off switch.

We use these most often in kitchen under-cabinet lights, glazed display cabinets, cooker hoods, picture and reading lights, and the multi-arm pendants that take a handful of capsules at once. Cool white is what we reach for where the job matters more than the mood: chopping, reading, showing glass or china to advantage. If you want a room to feel softer of an evening, a warmer white will serve you better. Keep this one to dry rooms indoors, well away from steam and weather, and it will quietly get on with the work.

The capsule is finished in clear and white, and sits on the standard G4 pins. Nothing on it is serviceable. Wipe it only when cold, using a dry cloth, and hold it by the base rather than the body when fitting or removing, since marks on a lamp this small show up quickly against the clear housing. It carries a two year warranty. We stock the same output in warm white for rooms that should sit softer, and a lower-wattage pair in warm and in pure white for fittings that need no more than a glow.
