Description

This is the working half of a crystal downlight: the lampholders and the retaining ring that hold a decorative crystal rim in place, finished in French gold. It is made for a 62mm cut-out and takes a GU10 or an MR16 lamp, up to 50W. We would reach for a slim LED reflector here, which keeps heat and running down behind a crystal rim. Dimming is possible, though that depends on dimmable lamps and a separate dimmer, as no dimmer comes with the kit.

Crystal downlights earn their place where a ceiling is plain or low and a hanging light would be wrong: hallways, dressing rooms, kitchens, or a sitting room that wants a little sparkle overhead rather than a large fitting. This kit is the part that makes those rims work, so it is what you add if you have chosen a rim on its own. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; damp, steamy or outdoor positions ask for a sealed fitting instead.

The metalwork is plated in a warm French gold, a good match for brass taps, gold ironmongery and the softer end of a metallics scheme. Electrically it is Class 2, double insulated. For cleaning, wait until the power is off and the lamp cool, then run a dry microfibre cloth over the ring; sprays and solvents dull plated finishes, so leave them in the cupboard. We stock the same kit in satin black, aged brass and polished chrome, and the crystal rims are sold separately across round, square, chamfered, bubble and cluster designs, so a French gold ring can sit under clear, smoked or coloured crystal depending on the room. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included.
