Freeport Outdoor Small Wall Lantern 1 Light - Black Seeded Glass

The Freeport is a compact outdoor wall lantern with a black powder-coated frame surrounding seeded glass panels on three sides, housing a single E27 bulb fitting behind a conical cap. The lantern measures 238mm high and 155mm wide, making it suitable for narrower wall spaces around doors, beside gates, or flanking porch entrances where a larger fitting would overpower the architecture.

The IP44 rating protects against solid objects over 1mm and water splashes from any direction, allowing the Freeport to be used on walls under overhangs, porches, and other semi-sheltered outdoor positions. The seeded glass introduces texture that softens the light output and reduces glare while maintaining visibility of the bulb filament if a traditional or LED filament lamp is fitted. The black finish provides contrast against lighter-coloured render, brick or timber cladding.

The lantern projects 185mm from the wall once mounted, which is typical for traditional-style outdoor wall lights and gives clearance for the arm and glass panels. The E27 socket accepts standard screw-fit bulbs up to 40W, with most installations using a 6-8W warm-white LED to balance light output with energy use. The weather-resistant construction uses composite materials that resist corrosion and UV degradation over outdoor exposure.

What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?

IP44 protection allows the lantern to be used in positions where it's exposed to rain splashes and damp conditions, but not full direct water jets or submersion. This makes it suitable for walls under eaves, porch ceilings, and semi-sheltered outdoor positions. It should not be used in fully exposed positions such as open garden posts without additional weather protection overhead.

What bulb should I use?

The E27 socket accepts any standard screw-fit bulb up to 40W. Most users pair this with a 6-8W warm-white LED (2700K-3000K) to give sufficient light for a doorway or path without over-lighting the area. Filament-style LED bulbs work well with the seeded glass, as the visible filament adds character when viewed through the textured panels.

Can this be fitted to brick or render?

Yes. The lantern mounts via a standard back plate that can be fixed to brick, render, timber cladding or masonry using appropriate wall plugs and screws. The back plate should be sealed around the edges with external-grade mastic to prevent water ingress behind the fitting.

How is the seeded glass cleaned?

Wipe the glass panels with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then rinse with clean water. The seeded texture traps dust and pollen more readily than smooth glass, so quarterly cleaning maintains clarity. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, which can scratch the composite frame finish.
