Freeport 1 Light Outdoor Small Wall Lantern White Seeded Glass

The Hinkley Freeport is a 238mm-high outdoor wall lantern built around a cylindrical cage with three tiers of seeded glass panels, finished in white weather-resistant composite. A single E27 bulb fitting sits inside the cage, casting light through the textured seeded glass which softens the beam and adds visual interest when unlit. The white pagoda-style roof sits above the cage on a tubular arm fixed to a stepped rectangular backplate.

Designed for covered outdoor positions such as porch entrances, front doors set under canopies, and sheltered patio walls, the IP44 rating protects against splashes and rain from any angle but is not suited to fully exposed positions without overhead cover. The 185mm projection from the wall and compact 155mm width make it suitable for narrow passages beside front doors and on gate posts where a larger lantern would obstruct movement. The E27 socket accepts bulbs up to 40W (sold separately), giving flexibility to choose between warm filament-style LEDs for traditional aesthetics or brighter cool-white bulbs for functional outdoor lighting.

The seeded glass panels show visible bubbles and texture variations, a deliberate feature that creates shadow patterns when the bulb is lit and prevents the cage from looking stark in daylight. The white composite frame resists UV fading and moisture ingress better than painted metal, maintaining colour consistency across seasons. The backplate has two fixing points suitable for standard outdoor junction boxes, and the arm is pre-wired with weather-sealed connections inside the backplate housing.

Is the Freeport suitable for fully exposed outdoor walls?

The IP44 rating protects against rain and splashes from any angle, but the lantern performs best under some overhead cover such as a porch canopy, eaves overhang, or recessed doorway. Fully exposed positions without any shelter may benefit from a higher IP65-rated fitting.

What bulb should I use?

The E27 socket accepts any standard Edison screw bulb up to 40W. Most users pair this with a 6-8W warm-white LED (2700K-3000K) for a traditional appearance, or a vintage filament-style LED bulb to complement the seeded glass aesthetic.

How is the white finish maintained?

The white composite material resists UV fading and does not require repainting. Wipe with a damp cloth to remove dust and pollen buildup. Avoid abrasive cleaners which can dull the surface.

Can it be mounted on a brick wall?

Yes. The backplate has two fixing points for standard outdoor junction boxes. Use appropriate wall plugs and screws rated for the wall material (brick, render, timber cladding) to support the 1.2kg weight of the fitting.
