Description

A neat square trim in matt white, this recessed fitting keeps its light source tucked inside a shallow aperture and lets you angle it. The COB LED gives 550 lumens of warm white at 3000K, a soft and slightly golden light rather than a crisp one, and the driver is supplied with it. It asks for a 70mm cut-out. It is not dimmable, so plan it onto a plain switch or a switched circuit.

We reach for downlights like this where a ceiling needs light without anything hanging below it: kitchens, hallways, landings, a bedroom with limited headroom. Because the LED tilts, you can push the light off the vertical and onto a run of shelving, a splashback or a picture, which makes it as useful for accenting as for general lighting. The beam is on the narrow side, so a row of them reads as pools of light rather than one even wash. Dry indoor rooms are where it belongs, so keep it away from shower zones and open porches.

The body and trim are finished in matt white, which sits quietly against a painted ceiling and shows fingermarks far less than anything polished. Cleaning is a matter of running a dry cloth around the visible trim now and again with the power off, since dust on the lens will dull the output before anything else does. A square trim draws a sharper, more architectural line than a round one, and we stock the round version at the same size in this range, plus a cooler white option if you want a brighter, whiter light over a worktop.
