Description

This is a compact recessed light with a tilting head, so the beam can be angled where you want it rather than dropping straight down. The COB LED runs at a crisp 4000K, and 580 lumens in a fairly tight beam picks out a worktop, a picture or a run of shelving instead of washing a whole room. The trim is matt white, low in sheen and quiet against a painted ceiling, and the driver comes with it.

We use these where light needs a direction: over a kitchen run, along a hallway ceiling to graze a wall of pictures, or in an alcove above shelving. The 70mm cut-out keeps the aperture modest, so a row of them reads as a line of small circles rather than a series of holes. It is not dimmable, so it wants a plain switch rather than a dimmer circuit, which makes it a sensible choice for corridors, utility rooms and cupboards where full output is all you need. Keep it to dry, sheltered interiors; anywhere damp or outdoors calls for a sealed fitting instead.

The body is finished in matt white throughout, bezel included, and the paint holds its flatness under the light rather than picking up a shine. It carries a three year warranty. For cleaning, switch off at the wall, let the fitting come down to room temperature, then lift dust off the face with a dry cloth; skip sprays and solvents, which can burnish matt paint. Within the range we also stock a square swivel head in the same size, a warm white version if you prefer a softer light, and larger formats for bigger rooms.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

No. This one is non-dimmable and should be run from a standard on/off switch. Fitting it to a dimmer circuit can cause flicker or buzz and may shorten the life of the driver.

What colour of light does it give?

A cool white at 4000K, with a system output of 580 lumens from the 7W COB LED and a colour rendering figure above 80, which keeps whites clean and greys neutral.

Do I ever need to replace the LED?

No lamp changes are involved, as the LED is integral and rated at 30,000 hours. A separate driver is supplied with the fitting.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

Not in a splash zone. It is rated IP20, so keep it to dry rooms and choose a sealed, higher rated downlight for shower and bath areas.
