Description

This is one of the smaller recessed spots we keep, dropping into a 70mm cut-out with a slim matt white bezel showing at the ceiling. Inside sits an integral COB LED putting out 550 lumens of warm white light, and the inner ring swivels, so the beam can be tipped away from vertical and aimed at a picture, a splashback or the front of a worktop. The driver is supplied with it. There is no dimming: it works from a standard on-off switch.

Warm white at this output is easy company in a room you spend time in rather than pass through, and the narrow body suits ceilings where depth is tight. We would use it across a hallway and landing, in a small kitchen, over a run of shelving or inside a dressing area, and it is one we pick when a larger downlight would look heavy in a compact room. At 7W apiece, a set of them across a whole floor stays modest on running costs. Keep it to dry indoor rooms; it is not made for a shower zone or anywhere it will meet steam or splashing.

The bezel is finished in a flat matt white that takes daylight without a shine, so it reads as part of a painted ceiling rather than a fitting sitting on one. It is double insulated. For upkeep, turn the power off and run a dry cloth around the visible rim to lift dust; there is no lamp to replace, as the LED is part of the unit. It carries a three year warranty. The same fitting is also made with a square bezel and in a cooler white, and there is a wider version if you want more light from fewer points.
