Description
This cheerful ceramic vase turns a fluted white cup into a little fish, with a smiling orange head on one side and a white tail fin traced in orange on the other. The bowl is made up of rounded white panels, each outlined in cobalt blue, rising to a softly scalloped rim that echoes the petals of a flower. Beneath the bowl, it narrows onto a flared pedestal foot in deep cobalt blue, ringed with a row of white dots. The fish has a black open mouth and a bright little eye, so it looks as if it is chattering away to whoever passes. It stands 18.5cm tall, 15cm wide and 14cm deep, a handy size for a shelf or windowsill where a larger vase would crowd the space.
We see it bringing a seaside note to a kitchen windowsill, a bathroom shelf or a hallway console, and it sits happily on a dressing table or bookcase too. Fill it with dried grasses, faux stems or a small bunch of dried lavender, or let it stand empty as a decorative piece in its own right; the white body keeps it easy to place beside other colours, while the blue foot and orange head give it plenty of character. It suits a coastal scheme or a bright, colourful room with a sense of humour.
The vase is made from ceramic with a glossy glazed finish, and the pedestal foot gives it a steady base on a flat surface. To keep it looking fresh, dust it with a soft dry cloth and wipe it gently with a damp cloth when needed, then dry it. Try it alongside plain white or blue pottery so the fish stands out, or tie a ribbon round the foot for a cheerful gift.
