Description

The Knightsbridge RW5WW is a fire-rated LED downlight with an integrated 5W LED module delivering 565 lumens at 3000K warm white through a clear polycarbonate diffuser. The fitting carries an IP65 rating from below, making it suitable for bathrooms and wet rooms, and has been tested to 30, 60 and 90 minute fire protection standards when installed in solid wood joists.

Designed for low-ceiling installations where void depth is limited, the fitting requires a 72mm cut-out and a minimum 120mm void above the ceiling surface. The integrated driver and loop-in/loop-out terminals allow multiple downlights to be wired in series without needing separate driver boxes, and the push-fit terminal connectors speed up installation. The fitting projects just 6mm below the ceiling when fitted, with an 85mm white bezel sitting flush with the plasterwork.

The aluminium and polycarbonate construction houses an SMD LED module with a 45-degree beam angle, providing focused light over a 1-1.2m diameter area when ceiling-mounted at standard 2.4m height. The LED is rated to L70B50 at 54,000 hours, meaning it retains 70% of initial output after approximately six years of continuous operation. The fitting is dimmable when paired with trailing-edge dimmers — compatibility should be checked before specifying a dimmer model, as not all trailing-edge units support low-wattage LED loads.

Can this downlight be used in bathrooms?

Yes. The IP65 rating from below makes it suitable for bathroom zones 1 and 2 when installed according to IET Wiring Regulations. The fitting is IP20 from above, so the void space above the ceiling must remain dry.

What void depth is required above the ceiling?

A minimum 120mm void is required to accommodate the 67mm recessed depth of the fitting plus clearance for the spring clips and thermal dissipation. Shallower voids cannot safely accommodate fire-rated downlights.

Is it compatible with all dimmer switches?

The fitting is dimmable but requires a trailing-edge LED-compatible dimmer. Not all trailing-edge dimmers support 5W loads, so check the dimmer specification before pairing. Leading-edge dimmers are not recommended for LED downlights.

How many downlights are needed for a typical bathroom?

For a 2m x 2m bathroom, two to three RW5WW downlights provide sufficient general lighting. Spacing them 1.2-1.5m apart gives even coverage without dark corners. Larger bathrooms scale proportionally.
