Description

The Fennhollow cluster gathers seven ribbed clear glass globes at close to the same height under a 530mm bright nickel plate. Grouped rather than stepped, the globes read as one bright mass, and the fluting in the glass breaks the light into small highlights across the ceiling and walls. The fitting projects 1140mm to 1340mm below the ceiling, an ordinary pendant drop. Seven E27 lamp holders take 10W LED bulbs and the whole thing is dimmable, so it can serve as the main light in a room and then sit back at a low level once the evening settles.

This is the size we would reach for in a normal room, whether over a dining table, a kitchen island, a coffee table or in the centre of a living room. Seven globes give plenty of output for a medium space, and the ribbed glass spreads it around instead of pooling it in one place. The 530mm plate wants a little clearance but no more than most pendants, and the drop leaves headroom under a 2400mm ceiling. Above a dining table, around 700mm between the lowest globe and the surface works well.

The metal parts are finished in bright nickel, a cool silver that holds up well next to grey and white schemes. Ribbed glass looks best kept clean, and the flutes trap dust more readily than a smooth surface, so dust along the ribs with a dry microfibre cloth or soft brush with the power off and the bulbs cool. Wipe the nickel with a barely damp cloth and avoid cream cleaners. At 6.3kg it needs a sound ceiling fixing. Fennhollow cascade pendants use the same ribbed globes on much longer drops for stairwells.
