Description

The Fasvette is a traditional six-sided lantern for an outside wall, finished in white with clear glass panels and a motion sensor set beneath the lantern. The body is cast aluminium, and it measures 36cm tall and 16.5cm in length, standing 21.5cm out from the wall on its curved bracket. It is rated IP44, which means it is protected from splashing water, so it can live outdoors on a house wall. It takes a single E27 bulb of up to 60W, and the bulb is not included, so you can choose the colour of light you prefer.

We would put it beside a front door, along a path at the side of the house or by a back door that leads to the garden, anywhere you want light to greet you as you arrive home. Because the motion sensor switches the lantern whenever it picks up movement, you are not fumbling for a switch with your arms full of shopping, and the light is not left burning all night. The white finish looks crisp against brick, render or painted walls, and the upright lantern shape suits period cottages and newer homes. Corner mounting is possible, which helps on a house where the best spot is round a corner.

The cast aluminium body gives the lantern a solid build, with a packed weight of 1.147KG, and aluminium does not rust the way iron does, which matters on an outside wall. The clear glass panels leave the bulb in full view, so a filament bulb makes a handsome feature of the lantern after dark. It runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains and is a wired-in light, so a qualified electrician should install it, and the installation instructions come as a download. Before fitting, pick up an E27 bulb of no more than 60W so the light is ready the moment the work is done.
