Eve 4 Light 2 Shade Pendant Light 24cm Drop Black - Anthracite

Four black oval shades run in a line along a slim anthracite bar, two to each arm, spreading light the length of a table instead of pooling it in one spot. At 88cm wide the bar covers a good stretch of surface, while the shallow depth front to back keeps it looking light overhead. Each shade takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and the drop can be set short under a low ceiling or run down further where there is height to use.

We reach for a linear fitting like this where a single central pendant leaves the ends of a long table in shadow: a farmhouse table, a kitchen island, a run of worktop with stools along it. It suits kitchen dining rooms with dark cabinetry or black window frames, since the anthracite and black together read as one quiet horizontal rather than a row of separate lamps. Put warm LED lamps in it and you get soft ambient light for eating and talking, and it will dim if you pair suitable lamps with a compatible dimmer, though neither comes with it.

The frame is finished in matt anthracite, with the shades in black to match. Switch off at the wall and let everything cool before you clean, then brush the dust off the shades and draw a dry cloth along the bar; no sprays, and nothing wet on the finish. It belongs in dry indoor rooms, over a table rather than in a shower room or a porch. It carries a one year warranty. The same frame comes with white oval shades if you want lighter contrast, and in polished chrome, and there are matching wall lights in the range to carry the look along a wall. Lamps are not included.

How wide is the fitting?

The bar spans 880mm and measures 240mm front to back, so it sits well over tables and islands of around 1.4m or longer.

What lamps does it take, and are they supplied?

It takes four E27 lamps rated up to 20W each. LED GLS (A60) lamps are the sensible choice. Lamps are not supplied.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and a dimmer compatible with them. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer is included.

How high or low can it hang?

The drop is adjustable between 640mm and 1500mm, which covers most dining ceilings and taller open-plan spaces.

Is it suitable for a bathroom or a covered porch?

No. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms only, so kitchens, dining rooms and living spaces rather than wet or exposed areas.

How should I clean the shades?

Turn the power off, let the lamps cool, then dust the shades with a soft brush or a dry cloth. Avoid water and household sprays on the anthracite finish.
