Description

The ESP Beacon pull cord module is a wall-mounted alarm trigger for accessible toilet facilities, designed to integrate with ESP UDTA alarm kits. The module houses a 10ft red braided pull cord fitted with an anti-ligature mechanism that releases under sustained load, reducing the risk of harm while maintaining alarm functionality. A red LED indicator on the white faceplate illuminates when the alarm is activated.

Installed in accessible toilet cubicles, changing rooms and wet rooms where emergency assistance may be needed, the module allows a user to trigger an alarm from floor level or seated position by pulling the cord. The 10ft cord length reaches to within approximately 100-150mm of the floor when the module is mounted at the recommended 900mm height. Two red triangular pull handles are supplied to attach at different heights on the cord, making the alarm easier to locate and grasp.

The module measures 92mm square and projects 72mm from the wall when fitted to the included surface back box, which eliminates the need to cut into wall surfaces during installation. The white urea housing is impact-resistant and meets the durability requirements for high-use accessible facilities. The anti-ligature cord mechanism is designed to release if weight is applied continuously rather than in a brief downward pull, allowing the alarm to function normally under typical use while reducing ligature risk.

Frequently Asked

What is the anti-ligature mechanism?

The cord releases from its anchor point if sustained weight is applied for more than a few seconds, reducing ligature risk. A brief downward pull to activate the alarm does not trigger the release mechanism.

What height should the module be mounted?

Building regulations for accessible toilets typically require pull cord modules to be mounted at 800-1000mm from the floor, with the cord reaching to within 100mm of floor level. The 10ft cord on this module accommodates installation at the standard 900mm height.

Is this compatible with existing alarm systems?

The module is designed to work with ESP UDTA accessible toilet alarm kits. It connects via low-voltage wiring to the alarm panel. Check the UDTA kit manual in the Downloads section for full wiring and compatibility details.

How is the surface back box fitted?

The included surface back box fixes to the wall with screws, eliminating the need to chase into plasterboard or masonry. The module then clips onto the front of the box and the wiring is concealed inside.
