Description

The Enigma is a 90cm semi-flush ceiling light with three opal glass globes mounted on white metal arms radiating from a central white cylindrical base. Each globe houses a G9 bulb (sold separately), and the arms can be angled during installation to direct light across different zones of the room. The fixture sits approximately 200mm below the ceiling, making it suitable for rooms where a standard pendant would hang too low.

Designed for living rooms, kitchens and bedrooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or lower, the Enigma provides diffused ambient light across a 4-5m space without dominating the room visually. The semi-flush mounting attaches directly to a standard UK ceiling rose, with the central cylinder concealing the wiring. The dimmable G9 fittings allow brightness to be adjusted via a compatible wall dimmer, giving flexibility between full illumination for tasks and softer lighting for evenings.

The white powder-coated metal frame and opal glass diffusers create a neutral palette that pairs with contemporary, Scandinavian and minimalist interiors. Each glass globe is blown from opal glass rather than frosted clear glass, so the diffusion is inherent to the material and provides even light dispersion without visible hotspots around the bulbs. The 900mm diameter means the fixture works best in rooms 4m x 4m or larger — smaller rooms may find the spread too wide for the ceiling area.

What bulbs does the Enigma take?

The fitting takes three G9 capsule bulbs, sold separately. Most users pair this with G9 LED bulbs between 3-5W and 2700K-3000K for warm white ambient light. Check the maximum wattage rating in the installation guide before fitting halogen G9s.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, when paired with dimmable G9 bulbs and a compatible wall dimmer. Not all G9 LED bulbs dim smoothly — use bulbs marked as dimmable and ensure your existing dimmer switch is rated for LED loads.

What ceiling height is needed?

The Enigma projects approximately 200mm below the ceiling once fitted. It works best in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or lower where a standard pendant would hang into the walking space. Higher ceilings can accommodate the fitting but may benefit from a pendant instead.

Can the arms be adjusted?

The arms can be angled during installation to direct the globes towards different parts of the room, but they are not designed to be adjusted regularly once the fitting is installed and wired. Adjustment requires accessing the central fixing point.
