Description

Energizer built this handheld torch around one useful trick: a magnet, so the light can hold itself to anything steel while you keep both hands on the job. The output is 50 lumens, which the pack prints on the front, and the same pack quotes up to 40 hours of runtime. Two AA alkaline cells are supplied in the blister, so there is nothing else to buy before it works. The body is red with a grey head, and the moulded panel down one side gives the fingers something to sit against.

A magnet changes where a torch is useful. Stuck to the underside of a bonnet, a boiler casing, a fuse board door or the leg of a metal workbench, it lights the thing you are working on rather than the thing you happen to be pointing at. Fifty lumens is not a searchlight and is not meant to be; it is the level that suits close work at arm's length, reading a meter dial, finding the stopcock, or checking a tyre at the roadside. Kept in a car door pocket, a kitchen drawer or a camping box, it earns its space.

The specification answers the dimming question plainly: no. There is a single brightness setting, and 50 lumens is what you get every time you switch it on.
