A glass table lamp, 49cm tall, in brushed silver. At 25cm wide it is about the width of a laptop. A lamp this size is for the places a larger one will not go: a bedside table, a console, the end of a sideboard. It is a pool of light beside something rather than the light for a whole room, which is the distinction worth being clear about before buying.

Cool tones settle beside grey, blue and black without any effort. Against a warm timber they need something to mediate, or the two simply sit next to each other.

The light you actually see is the light that comes THROUGH the shade, not the light from the bulb. That is why the same bulb reads warm behind a cream fabric and cold behind a white one. Dust is the whole of the maintenance and it matters more than it sounds: an even film of dust on a shade dims a room by more than most people would guess, and a soft brush restores it in a minute.
