Description

This is the round member of the Elsa canopy family, a shallow gold plate measuring 62cm across with five openings worked into it, made to hold a group of pendant drops together as one piece instead of a scatter of separate fittings. It is a non-electrical part and takes no lamp of its own, so the light comes from whatever hangs beneath. The plate sits close and flat, which keeps the eye on the drops rather than on the disc holding them.

We reach for this one over a round dining table, a kitchen island or a low table in a tall stairwell, where several drops at staggered heights read as a proper cluster and a lone pendant would look thin. It suits people who would rather compose a light than buy one whole, and it works happily with the glass and crystal pendants in the wider range. The ambient wash it helps create is soft rather than directional, so it belongs in rooms where you want glow instead of task light, and in dry rooms inside the house.

The gold finish is even across the face and the edge, and because the plate is broad it is worth keeping clean: a dry duster now and then, no sprays, no cream polishes and nothing abrasive near the surface.
