Description

Asymmetry is the point of this one. The clear glass shade sits off to the left of the brass backplate, so the light reaches away from the wall on one side only. The metalwork has an antique finish, warm and gently darkened rather than bright, and the clear glass leaves the capsule on show for a little sparkle up close. At 19cm wide it is a small fitting, and we reach for it where something larger would crowd a narrow stretch of wall.

Bedsides are the obvious home for it, one on either side of a headboard, and it works just as well in a hallway, in an alcove or flanking a mirror. It takes a single G9 capsule, which we would supply as an LED, and it will dim if the lamp and the dimmer are chosen to match; neither of those comes with it. There is no switch on the body, so it is controlled from the wall switch or whatever the circuit is put on. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from steam and splashes.

Glass and metal, with nothing to fade or fray. Dust the shade with a dry cloth and it stays clear; the brass takes a barely damp wipe and a dry buff if fingerprints show, always with the power off and the capsule cool. It carries a one year warranty. We stock this left-hand shape in polished chrome as well as antique brass, and the right-hand version in both finishes, so they can be set facing one another along a wall. It takes a single G9 capsule lamp, rated up to 10W. An LED capsule is the sensible choice, and lamps are supplied separately.

The projection is 160mm, with a width of 190mm and a height of 370mm, so it stays fairly close to the wall in tighter spaces such as landings and hallways.

Can I dim it?

Yes, provided you fit a dimmable G9 lamp and a dimmer switch that is compatible with it. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer comes with the fitting.

Is there a matching version for the other side of a bed?

Yes. A right facing wall light is made in the same antique brass with clear glass, so a pair can be arranged to lean away from or towards each other.

How should I clean the clear glass?

Switch the power off at the wall and let the lamp cool, then wipe the glass with a barely damp cloth and dry it at once. Avoid abrasive creams, which will dull both the glass and the brass.

Will it work in a bathroom?

No. It is intended for dry indoor rooms, so choose a fitting rated for damp conditions in a bathroom or shower room.
