Description

Sometimes the lamp you own and the lampholder you own simply do not match. This little white adaptor settles that: it screws into an E27 lampholder and presents a bayonet cap socket above it, so a B22 lamp drops in and locks with the usual push and twist. It is a short, plain cylinder about 27mm across, adding very little height to whatever sits above it, and it is rated for lamps up to 20W, which in practice points you at LED. A GLS A60 LED in bayonet cap is the natural partner.

We keep a drawer of these because the question comes up constantly: an inherited table lamp, a pendant bought second hand, a shade with a bayonet gallery, or a fitting rewired years ago to a screw lampholder. Rather than change the lampholder or hunt for a lamp in the wrong cap, you put the converter in and carry on. It suits rented flats and holiday lets, where nothing should be altered permanently, and it suits anyone tidying up a mixed box of spare lamps. Do bear in mind the modest wattage ceiling, so pair it with a low draw LED rather than an old filament lamp.

The body is white, which disappears against most white lampholders and inside pale shades, and the moulding is smooth with no fussy detail to catch dust. Keeping it right is a matter of turning the power off, letting things cool, then giving the outside a quick wipe with a dry cloth before the new lamp goes in; nothing wet, and nothing near the contacts. It carries a one year warranty. Other converters in the range run the other way, taking a bayonet lampholder up to a screw lamp, and there are versions for smaller caps too, so an odd pairing is usually solvable. Lamps are not included.
