Description

The Elderford semi flush holds a 400mm shade of Tiffany-style leaded glass 315mm below the ceiling, which makes it one of the more compact ceiling lights in the range. Three E27 lampholders sit inside, each taking an LED bulb of up to 10W, so a small shade still gives a useful amount of light. The fitting weighs 2.4kg. Bulbs are not included, leaving you free to choose a warm white for a bedroom or something brighter for a hallway.

A 400mm width is well judged for smaller rooms: single bedrooms, box rooms, narrow hallways, cloakrooms and upstairs landings where a wide shade would look heavy. The shallow projection keeps it clear of head height, which is why semi flush and flush mount fittings are the usual answer in cottages and converted lofts. The multicoloured glass gives a small room a proper focal point, and it sits as comfortably against period skirting and picture rails as it does against plain modern paint. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor use.

The shade is made from many small pieces of coloured glass set into soldered metal seams on a metal frame, so it reads as pattern by day and as warm colour by lamplight. Dust with a dry soft cloth, lift marks with a barely damp cloth and dry at once, and keep sprays and abrasive creams away from the seams. The fitting is Class 1 and needs an earthed supply, and it dims with a compatible dimmer switch and dimmable bulbs. An Elderford table lamp and an Elderford pendant carry the same range into other rooms.
