Description
This ceramic storage basket is shaped like a cracked Easter egg, with a zigzag rim around the top and a pair of bunny ears rising from the centre of its arched handle. The body is a soft pale blue dotted with little white flowers, each with a touch of pink at its heart, while the ears are white with a small pink bow where they meet the handle. The inside is plain white. It stands 17cm tall and measures 11.5cm across and 11.5cm from front to back, a neat size for a shelf, a windowsill or the middle of a table.
We like it best at Easter, when it brings a cheerful touch to a sideboard, a mantelpiece or the breakfast table. Fill it with foil-wrapped eggs ready for an egg hunt, or let it stand empty as a little seasonal decoration. Away from Easter it is just as handy: on a dressing table it holds hair clips and bands, in a hallway it catches keys, and on a desk it keeps paper clips and spare pens together. The arched handle makes it easy to lift and carry from room to room. As a thoughtful Easter gift, it works on its own or as the container for a few small presents tucked inside.
Made from ceramic, it has a smooth, glossy finish, with the cracked eggshell edge shaped into the rim and the flowers set against the blue. Like any ceramic piece it can chip if knocked, so give it a steady spot away from the edge of a shelf. To keep it looking fresh, dust it with a soft dry cloth, or wipe it gently with a damp cloth and dry it straight away. For an Easter morning gift, tuck a handful of mini eggs inside and tie a ribbon around the handle, and it will keep earning its place long after the chocolate has gone.
