Description

Slim, upright and quietly decorative, this is a tubular lamp with a gold-tinted glass envelope and a Z-shaped filament path running the length of it. At 4W it draws very little, and the light it gives is a deep amber-leaning warm white at 1800K, closer to candlelight than to ordinary warm white. The E27 fitting screws into standard lampholders, and it dims with a suitable dimmer, so the glow can go lower still without losing the colour.

It is a lamp for fittings where the glass is meant to be seen: open cage pendants, bare-flex clusters, a row over a kitchen island, wall lights with no shade at all. The narrow tube suits close-spaced groupings, and the light it throws is even all round rather than directional. We reach for this one in hallways, snugs and bar corners where the light is doing mood rather than task work, and we would pair it with a dimmer rated for LED loads to get the best of the bottom end. Anyone who has found standard warm white a little cold will find this considerably softer.

The body is glass, tinted gold, over a slender 185mm length, and the filament arrangement is the visual interest rather than any shade around it. It carries a three year warranty. To clean, let it cool, take it out of the fitting and wipe the glass with a dry lint-free cloth; nothing wet, and no kitchen sprays near the cap. Use it indoors, on a normal domestic mains supply. We keep it in gold, and it is the one we suggest when a clear lamp looks too stark. Grouped at staggered drops it reads better than a single lamp on its own.

What does 1800K look like?

Very warm and amber, close to candle or firelight. It is noticeably deeper in tone than the 2700K warm white most people are used to, which is why it flatters brick, timber and dark paint.

Will it work on my dimmer?

It is dimmable, but it needs a dimmer suited to low-wattage LED loads. No dimmer is supplied with the lamp, and a trailing-edge type intended for LEDs will give the smoothest result at the low end.
