Description

A candle bulb in clear rather than opal, so it keeps the slim tapered outline of the filament candles it replaces and looks right in fittings where the lamp itself is on show. The cap is the small E14 screw, which drops straight into chandeliers, wall lights and little shades. Output is 600 lumens from 5.5W, and at 4000K the colour is a neutral white, crisp and clean with none of the amber cast a warm lamp gives. Light spreads all round rather than throwing in one direction.

We would put it in a hall lantern, a run of wall lights, a bedside lamp or a chandelier over a dining table, wherever a cooler, cleaner light suits the room better than a golden one. It dims, so you can take the level down in the evening, though it needs a dimmer designed for LED loads; no dimmer comes with the lamp. If a fitting holds several candles, we would change them all together so the colour stays even across the set.

The clear finish leaves the inside of the lamp visible, which is what you want behind cut glass or in an open lantern, and less so where it sits bare at eye level. Dust shows on clear lamps far more than on frosted ones: turn the light off, give it a moment to cool, then wipe the surface with a dry cloth, nothing damp and no sprays. It carries a three year warranty. This is our everyday E14 candle, the one we hand over when someone wants a neutral white that dims and a shape that disappears into the fitting.

Will it fit my existing candle fitting?

It has the small E14 screw cap and measures 35mm across the widest part of the candle by 100mm tall, so it suits most chandeliers, wall lights and small shades that take a standard candle lamp.

Can I use it on a dimmer switch?

Yes. It is dimmable, but it needs a dimmer suited to LED loads. A dimmer is not supplied with the lamp.

Is 4000K warm or cool light?

It is a neutral, cooler white. Alongside a 2700K warm lamp it will look noticeably crisper, which is why we suggest not mixing the two in the same fitting.

How much light does it give?

600 lumens, drawn at 5.5W, spread evenly all round the lamp rather than in a beam.

How long should it last?

It has an average rated life of 15,000 hours and carries a three year warranty.

How should I clean it?
