Description

The Knightsbridge dual voltage shaver socket provides both 115V and 230V output at 20VA behind a polished chrome screwless faceplate with a white insert. The socket is designed specifically for bathroom installation, with an IP41 rating that protects against water splashes and solid objects larger than 1mm, making it compliant with UK bathroom electrical zone regulations.

Designed for bathroom zones 2 and 3 (outside the immediate shower or bath area), the socket accepts both two-pin and three-pin shaver plugs, switching automatically between 115V and 230V depending on which plug type is inserted. The 20VA rating supports standard electric shavers and electric toothbrushes but is intentionally limited to prevent connection of hairdryers or other high-draw appliances that should not be used near wet areas.

The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, leaving no visible screws or fixings on the wall once installed. The polished chrome finish pairs well with bathroom taps, towel rails and shower fittings in chrome or mixed-metal schemes. A gasket between the cover plate and the sub-frame seals the front of the unit against moisture ingress. The socket is certified to EN 61558 for isolating transformers and carries a 25-year warranty from Knightsbridge.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 47mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The screwless cover plate adds approximately 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

Can this be used in a shower room?

The IP41 rating makes this socket suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3, which are outside the immediate shower or bath enclosure. It should not be installed within zone 0 (inside the bath or shower tray) or zone 1 (directly above the bath or shower to a height of 2.25m). Consult a qualified electrician to confirm correct zone placement.

Does it work with both 115V and 230V shavers?

Yes. The socket automatically switches between 115V and 230V depending on the plug type inserted. Two-pin plugs typically receive 115V; three-pin plugs receive 230V. This covers most electric shavers sold worldwide.

Can I plug in a hairdryer or other appliances?

No. The 20VA rating is intentionally limited to prevent connection of high-draw appliances like hairdryers, straighteners or phone chargers. Only electric shavers and electric toothbrushes should be used with this socket.
