The Knightsbridge FP8900PC is a dual voltage shaver socket supplying both 115V and 230V at 20VA output, housed behind a polished chrome flat plate with a black insert. The socket accepts both 2-pin UK shaver plugs and European-style 2-pin plugs, making it compatible with electric shavers, toothbrushes and other low-power grooming appliances rated up to 20VA.

Designed for bathroom installation above basins and vanity units, the socket carries an IP41 rating achieved through a built-in gasket that protects the internal transformer from moisture ingress and water splash. The ultra-flat plate projects just 2.5mm from the wall once fitted, making it suitable for installations where a low-profile finish is required. The socket meets EN 61558 standards and requires a minimum mounting box depth of 47mm.

The polished chrome finish provides a mirror-like reflective surface that pairs with chrome taps, towel rails and bathroom fittings in contemporary and traditional bathrooms. The black insert behind the chrome faceplate defines the aperture edges and hides the back of the cover plate. What appliances can this socket power?

The socket is rated at 20VA output and designed specifically for electric shavers, electric toothbrushes and similar low-power grooming appliances. It should not be used for hairdryers, straighteners or other high-wattage devices.

Can this be installed in a shower enclosure?

No. The IP41 rating protects against water splash but not the direct water jets encountered in a shower enclosure. The socket must be installed outside zone 1 and zone 2 of the bathroom, typically above a basin or on a wall at least 600mm from a bath or shower tray edge.

What's the difference between 115V and 230V outputs?

The socket provides both voltages from a single outlet. UK and European shavers typically use 230V, while some imported appliances (particularly older American models) require 115V. The socket automatically supplies the correct voltage based on which pins the plug engages.

Is the flat plate screwed or screwless?
