Description

The Downing Street is a black aluminium outdoor wall light with an integrated 10W 3000K LED behind a frosted glass diffuser and horizontal slatted frame. The IP65 rating protects the internal components against dust ingress and water jets from any direction, making the fitting suitable for UK coastal locations, exposed facades, and positions subject to rain run-off.

Designed for exterior wall mounting on porches, patios, garage entrances and pathway lighting, the 166mm square footprint provides enough presence to light a doorway or a 2-3m section of pathway without overwhelming residential-scale architecture. The horizontal slats shield the light source from direct view when approaching from typical walking height, reducing glare while allowing light to spill up onto the wall and down onto the ground below the fitting.

The die-cast aluminium body is powder-coated in matt black with a textured finish that resists fingerprints and conceals minor surface marks from garden activity. The frosted glass sits behind the slat frame and diffuses the LED to create an even wash of warm white light rather than visible hotspots. The fitting projects 100mm from the wall once mounted and weighs approximately 0.8kg including the internal LED driver.

What does IP65 mean for outdoor use?

IP65 means the fitting is dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction. It can be mounted in positions exposed to rain, coastal spray and hose-wash. It is not submersible and should not be installed where water can pool around the fitting.

Is the LED replaceable?

No. The 10W LED is integrated into the fitting and is not user-replaceable. The LED is rated for 25,000-30,000 hours of operation, equivalent to approximately 10-15 years at typical residential use (3-4 hours per evening).

Can it be mounted horizontally or vertically?

The fitting is designed for vertical wall mounting with the slats running horizontally. Mounting it rotated 90 degrees would place the slats vertically, which changes the light distribution pattern and may affect how water drains from the fitting.

What size back box or base is required?

The fitting mounts directly to the wall surface over a standard outdoor electrical junction box. A round or square pattress box of 35mm depth is typical. The 166mm square backplate conceals boxes up to approximately 100mm diameter.
