Description

This illustrated ceramic mug carries a parade of painted dogs around its white body, with the words "Dogs are my favourite people" running above them, the first word in a loose handwritten script and the rest in neat capitals. Around the mug you will find a spaniel, a chihuahua, a scruffy terrier, a Jack Russell in a checked neckerchief, a dachshund and a dalmatian, each drawn in soft watercolour tones with a light shadow beneath its paws. The inside and the handle are a pale sky blue, which sets off the white and picks up the blue of the lettering. It has a low, rounded shape that narrows gently towards the rim, and measures 7cm tall, 13.5cm wide and 10.5cm deep.

That short, steady shape sits happily on a desk, a bedside table or the kitchen worktop, and it is easy to wrap both hands around on a cold morning. It is a cheerful choice for anyone who shares their home with a dog, whether their own favourite is the dachshund with its gold collar, the spotted dalmatian or the scruffy terrier in its red collar. We think it makes a lovely gift for the friend who stops to say hello to every dog they pass, and the words on the side say exactly what they would say themselves. It suits tea and coffee drinkers alike.

The mug is ceramic throughout, with the dogs and lettering printed on the white outside, and the pale blue colour carried on the inside and over the handle. For everyday care we suggest washing it by hand in warm soapy water and drying it with a soft cloth, a gentle habit for any printed ceramic. Tuck a packet of good tea or coffee inside and it becomes a ready-made present, or keep it for yourself and let the dogs keep you company over the first brew of the day.
