The Dernessa is a round flush ceiling light: a taupe fabric drum around a white body of plastic and steel, with a white diffuser closing the underside and a white lining inside the drum. It is 32cm across and only 9cm deep, so it sits close to the ceiling and keeps the room feeling open. The light source is integrated LED, three lights at 3.6W each, so there is no separate bulb to buy or change. Each of the three gives 320lm in a warm 3000K white. It is rated IP20, and that settles where it goes: indoors, in dry rooms.

Because it hugs the ceiling, it suits rooms where a pendant would hang too low: a bedroom, a hallway, a landing, or a living room with a modest ceiling height. Taupe is a soft, neutral colour that sits comfortably beside wood, linen curtains and pale painted walls, so it fits a calm scheme without drawing attention.
