Description

The Dernane is a linear pendant light in a black finish: a slim steel bar carrying three open wire cages, each one framing a cylinder of smoked glass. It is 74.5cm long, 15cm wide and 110cm high overall, so it sits neatly over a table without crowding the room around it. Each of the three shades takes an E27 bulb of up to 60W, and the bulbs are not included, which leaves you free to choose the colour and style of light you like. With an IP20 rating it belongs indoors, in a dry room.

A row of three lights works best over something long, and this one suits a dining table, where it spreads light along the surface rather than pooling it in the middle. It sits just as comfortably over a games table, and the open cages keep the look airy, drawing a crisp black outline against a light wall. The smoked glass takes the edge off the glare of a bare bulb while still letting you see it, which is why it suits an industrial or loft style interior so well. We think it also brings a strong focal point to a plain modern room that needs some character.

The body, from the ceiling plate to the open cages, is steel in a black finish, and the shades are smoked glass in a black-transparent tone. There is no switch on the fitting itself: it is switched at the wall, and it runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains. As a wired-in ceiling light it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download. The packed weight is 4.186KG. Because the bulbs show through the glass, a decorative filament bulb makes the most of the shades.
