Three lamps sit up inside a white shade, and clear Asfour crystal below them catches the light and breaks it into points. The metalwork is polished chrome, bright enough to answer the crystal without fighting it. At 50cm across it reads as a full circle from below, and the drop can be set short or long to suit the ceiling height. This is one of the bigger crystal pendants we keep, and it wants a room with a little height to give away.

We reach for this one over a round dining table, where the crystal has something to reflect in and the shade keeps the lamps out of eye line. It also does well in a hallway with a good stretch above it, in a formal sitting room, or centred in a main bedroom. Fit dimmable lamps, pair them with a dimmer of your own, and the light drops back to something much softer for the evening. Keep it to dry rooms indoors: a hall, a landing or a dining room rather than a shower room or a covered porch.

The crystal is Asfour, clear and faceted so it throws light back rather than swallowing it, and the shade above is white. Chrome keeps its shine with a dry microfibre cloth run over it now and then; go gently around the crystal drops, and keep sprays and damp cloths away, since they leave marks that take the polish off. It carries a one year warranty. Set against a plain ceiling and warm walls it does the decorative work on its own, so the fittings around it can stay quiet. Lamps are not supplied, and we would put in G9 LED capsules in a warm white, which keeps the crystal reading golden rather than cold.

How far down does it hang?

The drop is adjustable from 400mm to 2000mm, so it can be dressed close to the ceiling or taken well down over a table or into a stairwell.

What lamps does it take?

Three G9 lamps, each up to 33W. We would choose G9 LED capsules; they run at a fraction of that figure and are easy to change.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer switch. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer come with the pendant.

What kind of crystal is used?

How wide is it, and how heavy?

How should the crystal be cleaned?

Switch the light off at the wall and let the lamps go cold, then dust the crystal with a soft dry cloth, supporting each piece as you go. Avoid glass sprays and household cleaners.
