Black on the outside, clear crystal within. The plain drum shade holds the sparkle inside itself, so light reaches the room through cut Asfour crystal rather than straight from the lamp. Three G9 capsules sit above the crystal drops, and at 50cm across the pendant reads as a broad, shallow band rather than a tall lantern. Polished chrome brightens the frame, the ceiling plate and the suspension.

Dining tables are the obvious home for it, hung so the crystal sits just above eye level and the shade shields the lamps from anyone seated. It works equally well in an entrance hall with height to spare, or centred in a bedroom where you want a little glitter overhead. The suspension can be shortened or let out over a wide range, so it can hang close under a modest ceiling or fall properly over a stairwell. Dimming is possible with dimmable capsules and a separate dimmer. We would put warm white LEDs in this one and let the crystal do the rest.

The crystal is Asfour, clear and faceted, and it is what gives the fitting its life; the chrome around it is polished to a mirror brightness, while the black shade keeps the outline quiet from across a room. Keep it looking well by brushing dust from the facets with a soft brush, then wiping the metalwork with a barely damp cloth and drying it straight away; let the capsules cool before you go near them. It carries a one year warranty. Against a dark wall the shade almost disappears and you are left with a ring of crystal catching the light. Lamps are not included.

How low will it hang?

The drop is adjustable from 400mm at its shortest to 2000mm at its longest, measured from the ceiling, which covers everything from a standard room height to a double-height space or stairwell.

Which lamps does it take?

Three G9 capsules, each up to 33W. LED capsules are the sensible choice, and they are supplied separately.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable G9 capsules and use a compatible dimmer switch. No dimmer is supplied with the pendant.

What sort of crystal is used?

Asfour crystal in a clear finish, faceted so it breaks the light rather than simply passing it through.

Is it suitable for a bathroom or a covered porch?

No. It is rated IP20, so it belongs in dry interior rooms such as dining rooms, halls and bedrooms.

How wide is it, and what size table does it suit?

It measures 500mm in diameter, which sits comfortably above a round table or the centre of a rectangular six-seater.
