Description
This dark gingerbread house mug is made from ceramic and shaped like a little iced cottage, with a snowy roof that lifts off as its lid. The walls are a rich glossy brown, picked out with raised white icing: an arched front door edged in dots with a round window, a scalloped trim above it, arched windows to either side and a wavy line of piped icing around the top. Two red swirl lollipops stand in little pots beside the door, and the back carries a single arched window. The roof is a thick drift of white snow with a dormer window and a small chimney, and the handle is striped red and white like a candy cane. It stands 15cm tall, 13.5cm wide and 10cm deep.
We see it as a mug for Christmas, at its happiest on the kitchen shelf or the breakfast table through December, with its little front door facing out into the room. Lift the roof off and it is a cheerful mug for a cup of cocoa on a cold evening; set the roof back on and it sits on a dresser or windowsill like a small festive ornament between cups. As a Christmas gift it brings a touch of gingerbread fun to someone's festive season.
Both the mug and its lid are ceramic, with a glossy finish that lets the raised icing catch the light, a plain cream inside and a cream band around the base like a snowy doorstep. To keep the detail crisp, we suggest washing it gently by hand and wiping the outside with a soft damp cloth, drying it well before the roof goes back on. Lift the lid by its chimney and set it down beside you while you drink. For a gift, tuck a few wrapped chocolates inside under the roof, so the surprise appears when the lid comes off.
