Description

A plain rectangular column in polished chrome, slim and upright, with a mirror bright surface that catches whatever light is already in the room. It stands 44cm to the top of the lampholder and is sold as a base only, ready for the E27 lamp and the shade of your choosing. An inline switch on the flex means you can turn it on and off from the tabletop rather than reaching behind furniture for a socket. We like bases like this because they leave the character of the lamp to the shade.

It suits a bedside table, a console in a hall, the corner of a desk or the end of a sideboard, anywhere a compact footprint matters more than presence. Because the shade is left to you, it is handy for reusing a shade you already have, or for bringing a pair of odd lamps into line with matching shades. Fit a lamp of up to 20W, and choose LED to suit whatever shade sits above it. With a dimmable lamp and a dimmer in the circuit, the light can be taken down low for evening reading. It belongs indoors, on ordinary household mains.

The base is finished in polished chrome throughout, a bright plated surface that shows fingerprints more readily than a brushed one. Once it has been off long enough for the lamp to cool, buff the chrome with a dry microfibre cloth, skipping creams, sprays and anything gritty that would dull the shine. It carries a one year warranty. A straight sided drum in linen or parchment sits well on the rectangular form, and a deeper empire shade will cover the lampholder neatly. Lamps and shades are not included.
