Description
Five opal white glass shades sit on a curved antique brass frame, angled outward so the light spreads across a room rather than pooling below. The opal glass softens the lamps behind it, so what you get is a warm, even glow instead of bright points. Across 54cm it draws a generous circle on the ceiling while sitting close enough to keep headroom clear. Small E14 golf ball lamps do the work, and dimmable ones on a compatible dimmer will let you drop the level in the evening.
We would put this in a hallway or on a landing where a hanging fitting would be in the way, and it works just as well in a bedroom or a square sitting room that needs light reaching into the corners. The spread of shades suits a room with some decorative detail already in play, whether that is a period cornice or older timber furniture. It answers well for anyone who wants the presence of a chandelier without the drop. It runs on ordinary household mains and belongs in dry rooms, so a hall or a bedroom rather than a shower room.
The frame is metal in an antique brass finish, warm and slightly aged rather than bright, and the shades are opal glass. For upkeep, switch off at the wall and let everything cool, then lift dust from the brass with a dry cloth and bring the glass back with a barely damp one, dried off straight away. It carries a one year warranty. We also stock the same fitting in satin nickel, a smaller three light version in both finishes, and matching wall lights, so a hall and the rooms off it can be tied together. Lamps are not included.

Frequently Asked
What lamps does it take, and how many?
It takes five E14 lamps, up to 40W each. LED golf ball lamps are the sensible choice, and they suit the shade shape well.
Can it be dimmed?
Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and pair them with a suitable dimmer. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.
How large is it?
It measures 540mm across and 410mm in height, so allow a clear circle of a little over half a metre on the ceiling.
What are the shades made from?
Opal white glass, with each shade taking a 30mm hole where it meets the fitting. The metalwork is finished in antique brass.
Is it suitable for a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20, which means it is intended for dry indoor rooms such as halls, landings, bedrooms and sitting rooms.
How do I keep the brass looking right?
A dry, soft cloth is all it needs. Avoid polishes and abrasive creams, as these can wear away the aged tone of the finish.
