Description

A ring of clear crystal held in a polished chrome frame, sitting close up to the ceiling on a shallow body rather than a long drop. The lamps sit inside the ring, four of them, so light leaves from the centre and picks its way out through the glass in short flashes. At 48cm across it has the presence of a centrepiece without the height that comes with a chandelier, and the chrome keeps the whole thing looking light.

We would put it where headroom is short but you still want a bit of sparkle overhead: a hall, a landing, a bedroom, a snug, a small dining room with a low ceiling. It is one we reach for when a pendant would hang too low over a stairwell or across a doorway. Dimmable lamps and a separate dimmer will take it down to something softer in the evening, which is worth doing in a room that eats as well as sits.

Metalwork is finished in polished chrome and the crystal is clear, cut to catch the lamps rather than colour them. Keeping it bright is a matter of switching off at the wall, letting things cool, then going over the glass with a lint free cloth, damped if it has gone dull, and buffing the chrome dry afterwards; spray cleaners belong on the cloth, never on the fitting. It carries a one year warranty. The Coniston range carries on into wider rings and a long linear version for tables and islands, with French Gold and Antique Brass alternatives to the chrome. Lamps are not included, and small candle LEDs are what we would fit here.

What lamps does it take?
Four E14 candle lamps, up to 20W each. LED candles in the C35 shape are the sensible choice and are what we would fit.

How far does it hang below the ceiling?
The body is 270mm deep, so it stays tight to the ceiling and suits rooms where a hanging fitting would be in the way.

Can it be dimmed?
Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer come with it.

How do I clean the crystal?
Turn the light off and let the lamps cool, then wipe each piece with a lint free cloth. If the glass has gone hazy, damp the cloth slightly and dry it straight after.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?
No. It is rated for dry rooms only, so keep it to halls, bedrooms and living spaces away from steam and splashes.

What size room does the 48cm version suit?
It works well in spaces up to around three and a half metres square. Larger rooms are better served by the 60cm and 80cm versions in the same range.
