Coniston 4 Light Crystal Semi-Flush Ceiling Light - French Gold

A shallow ring of clear crystal held in a French gold frame, sitting close up under the ceiling rather than dropping from a rod or chain. Four candle lamps sit within the ring and light it from inside, so the crystal picks the light up and throws it back in small bright points across the ceiling and down the nearest wall. At 48cm across it reads as a generous circle rather than a small rosette, while the semi flush build keeps everything tucked in tight above head height.

This is the one for rooms with no height to give away: a landing, an entrance hall, a bedroom with a low ceiling, or a dining spot in a flat where a pendant would hang in the way. We reach for it when someone wants crystal and glitter without anything swinging at eye level. It works on a dimmer provided the lamps you fit are themselves dimmable, and we would do exactly that here, because crystal earns its keep in the evening when the light is turned right down.

The frame carries a warm French gold finish, and the crystal is clear throughout, cut and graded as Diyas Select. Keep the metalwork away from sprays and polishes; a dry lint free cloth run gently over the drops is enough for most dust, and a barely damp cloth on the frame afterwards will bring the gold back if it looks dull. Let the lamps go cold before you touch anything. It carries a one year warranty. The wider range runs to larger flush rings and a long linear version, and the same shapes come in polished chrome and antique brass if the gold is too warm for a scheme. Lamps are supplied separately, and small LED candle lamps are what we would put in.

How far does it hang below the ceiling?
The overall height is 270mm, so it sits about a quarter of a metre down from the ceiling line, which is why it works in rooms where a pendant would be too low.

What lamps does it take?
Four E14 lamps, up to 20W each. Small LED candle lamps in the C35 shape are the sensible choice and keep the running cost down.

Can I dim it?
Yes, on a suitable dimmer switch, but the lamps you fit must be dimmable ones. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.

What is the crystal?
Clear crystal to the Diyas Select grade, used across the whole ring.

How wide is it, and is there a smaller option?
This one measures 480mm in diameter. The range also includes a 40cm three light ring and a 60cm six light ring in the same finishes.

How should I clean the crystal?
Wait until the lamps are cold, then dust the drops with a soft dry cloth. Avoid household sprays, which can mark both the crystal and the gold finish.
